TIME TO CLEAN HOUSE!
The origional version of the Steve Meisner website was created more than 15 years ago! Can you believe it? Throughout those many years, we've placed a whole bunch of pages, photos, videos, flyers, newsletters, band schedules, and even information about my life, family, and hobbies. Whoooo, that's a whole lot of information! Well, it's probably long over-due that we clean house around here and that's what we have started to do. While we obviously already have a new look, it really is only temporary. I won't bore you with all of the work going on behind the scenes but do want to let you know that we are most certainly under construction at www.stevemeisner.com and will be for a while. Pretty much everything you need is still available - it's just hopefully a little easier to find now using the menu buttons at the top and bottem of many of the new pages. All of the old pages are still here too - at least for a while. If you can't find what you are looking for or have a question, please contact me and I'll do my best to help you. By the way, if you have not yet seen it, you can now buy Meisner music direction from this site on our new Merchandise page. Take a look and make sure you aren't missing something in your music collection.

CLEVELAND BUS TRIP Has it been a while since you've attended the big polka celebration in Cleveland? You’ll also get Thanksgiving dinner at the famous Sterle’s Country House, together with lodging at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Cleveland where the Polka Party is held. STEVE PERFORMS IN WASHINGTON DC
Since 2002, the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress has hosted a regular series of concerts that run each year from April through November. In 2010, Steve Meisner was selected from a roster of nominees supplied to the AFC by the state folklorist on staff at the Wisconsin Arts Board, Anne Pryor. “We nominated Steve for several reasons: his outstanding musical skills on the accordion, creativity with the Slovenian style of polka, engaging showmanship, and also, for him, polka is not only a regional and ethnic tradition.  It’s also a family tradition,” wrote Pryor. Steve’s father, Verne Meisner (1938-2005) of Waukesha, Wisconsin, was a lifelong polka musician who gained international fame.  Among other accomplishments, Verne was honored in 1989 with induction into the International Polka Hall of Fame.  Both father and son represented Wisconsin in 1998 in Washington D.C.  As a major event in the celebration of Wisconsin’s Sesquicentennial, the Wisconsin Arts Board partnered with the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage to bring 120 traditional artists to the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.  Steve and Verne played for two weeks on the National Mall in a grand celebration of Wisconsin’s 150th birthday. “My Dad’s melding of the Yankovic Slovenian style, Cleveland Slovenian styles, Louis Bashell’s Milwaukee Slovenian style along with local bands from his childhood and other regional groups solidified his style within a style,” Steve reflected.  “I, however, was literally only exposed to Verne Meisner (who was always my mentor) as a child and it wasn’t until my early adolescence and my teenage years that I expanded my own influences to include bands from the Cleveland and Milwaukee Slovenian styles along with other polka, pop, country and rock genre influences.  The intricacy of what has brought me into my own style within a style is pretty deep.”
