On Monday April 30th, 2001 the Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI) held their annual
awards banquet in Milwaukee. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel announced May 1st, that Steve
Meisner was voted "Favorite Polka Artist" by the WAMI members. Because of
performance obligations Steve was unable to attend personally to accept the award. This is
his third WAMI award for this category.
The WAMI organization recognizes excellence and popularity in Wisconsin's music industry
in 30 categories. The nominees are chosen by WAMI academy members, the board of directors
and the WAMI advisory board. Ballot's are then sent state-wide through the major news
papers and the final vote is determined.
An update on "Chump Change". The motion picture featuring Steve Meisner and his
music was recently purchased by Miramax. No announcement of a release date yet, but
writer/director Steve Burrows assures a nation-wide release.
Message from Steve:
Dear Friends and Fans,
Since I was unable to attend the WAMI awards show personally, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all of you for your vote and participation. We all know that being a musician in polka music is not at all with out awards and honors. However, it is not as recognized by public media in comparison as much as popular forms of music. In order to continue spreading the good new about polka music and the musicians involved, we need to continue to support organizations that support us. Many thanks to the WAMI organization for their support of this category, all of the deserving nominees, the fan's, and to the musicians who continue to "hang in there" and keep the music alive and available to the public.

Steve! Congrats on your WAMI win. Next you'll have to try for the South Park
Area Musician Industry (SPAMI) and the Cudahy Lake Area Musician Industry
(CLAMI) and before you know it, you'll win a GRAMI.
Keep up the good work...
